Co-Founder, ArbBoutique
Niuscha Bassiri is the co-founder of ArbBoutique, based in Brussels. She focuses on arbitrator work, having acted as arbitrator under all major rules over the last 14 years. She has applied the laws of over two dozen of jurisdictions, spanning from Belgium to Mongolia to Zimbabwe, often involving State-owned entities. She is a German qualified Rechtsanwalt, having worked in Cologne and London, with a short stint in New York. She is a lecturer at the MIDS program and a faculty member at the University of Miami.
Amongst other things, she has published and researched on instant cost orders, default proceedings, arbitrator nationality requirements and the social media behavior of arbitrators. In her 22-year long career in international arbitration, she has acted as counsel in setting aside and enforcement proceedings before Belgian and Dutch courts. She is fluent in English and German and works in Dutch, French and Spanish. Her mother tongues are Farsi and German, holding both the German and the Iranian nationalities. Since 2014, Niuscha is regularly praised by her peers for her excellence, describing her in international rankings as an “elegant and skillful arbitrator” who comes “[h]ighly recommended for her leading investment and commercial arbitration expertise” and able to handle “tricky situations as arbitrator with finesse and sound judgment”.
