Niuscha Bassiri is Co-Founder of ArbBoutique in Brussels, Vice-President of the German Arbitration Institute (DIS), member of the faculty of the Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) and Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, where she teaches the New York Convention. With more than two decades of experience as arbitrator, emergency arbitrator, mediator, and counsel, she has acted in proceedings under all major arbitral rules, including DIS, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, SCC, SIAC, DIS, Swiss Rules, and UNCITRAL, involving states, state-owned entities, international organizations, and multinational corporations across a broad range of industries.
At the MIDS, Ms. Bassiri brings a uniquely practice-oriented perspective to the study of international dispute settlement, drawing on extensive experience in both commercial and investment arbitration, enforcement and set-aside proceedings, which she practiced for over ten years in high-stake, high-profile cases, representing states. A widely published author and sought-after speaker, she is recognized internationally for excellence in arbitration. Ms. Bassiri is listed by the forthcoming Lexology Index as a Global Elite Thought Leader, a distinction based on peer, counsel, arbitrator and client recognition. Peers have described her as an "extremely sharp arbitrator and counsel," an "elegant and skillful arbitrator" and "an exceptionally effective communicator."
