Joseph is a New Zealand–qualified disputes lawyer with a focus on international arbitration and investigations. He has three years of experience in alternative dispute resolution and in the development of instruments concerning international dispute settlement across a range of sectors.
Joseph completed an LL.B and B.A. (International Relations & Political Science) at the Victoria University of Wellington in 2025. Following graduation, Joseph attained further study in international dispute settlement through The Hague Academy of International Law and the University of Cambridge’s Lauterpacht Centre. During his studies, Joseph held various Research Assistant positions for a number of professors in international law and concurrently supported the investigations work of New Zealand’s Parliamentary Office of the Ombudsman. Having worked as an Investigator for New Zealand’s Chief Ombudsman throughout 2025, Joseph moved to South Korea where he worked as a Legal Intern for the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law before joining the 2026 MIDS cohort.
Through these roles, Joseph gained exposure to international commercial disputes across a range of sectors under the UNCITRAL Model Law and UNCITRAL Rules. He has particular experience concerning cross-border insolvency, investor–State dispute settlement reforms, and the effects of electronic arbitral agreements and awards.
Joseph continues to be an active member of the broader arbitration community. He is currently a Research Fellow at the EPIS Thinktank and an Arbitration Editor of various international and New Zealand periodicals. Joseph also continues writing on issues concerning international arbitration as a Legal Research Assistant, and editing the related publications of LexisNexis and the New Zealand Law Reports.
Outside of arbitration, Joseph is a passionate trail runner and (nearly) lifelong pianist. He is consequently using his time in Geneva to develop not only his French language ability but also his knowledge of the surrounding running tracks.
