Jay Malwade is an Indian – qualified lawyer with substantial experience in dispute resolution and corporate transactions, with a particular focus on the financial sector.
Prior to joining the MIDS, Jay practised as counsel in New Delhi, handling complex commercial disputes, arbitrations, and arbitration-related litigation. His work also included advising on high-value international and domestic arbitrations and assisting India’s representation in the first-ever WTO arbitration under GATS Article XXI.
Before transitioning to counsel practice, Jay worked with AZB & Partners, where he was part of the Corporate and FinTech team. His experience there encompassed M&A transactions, fintech advisory, and financial regulatory matters, advising entities regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India and the Reserve Bank of India in both contentious and non-contentious contexts.
Jay holds an undergraduate degree in law (B.A., LL.B) from Gujarat National Law University, graduating in 2023. During law school, he represented his university at the Foreign Direct Investment Moot 2022, where he was adjudged the second-best speaker in the South Asia rounds, and the team advanced to the quarterfinals at the World Rounds. He has since coached teams for the FDI Moot and the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot.
Beyond law, Jay is an avid sports enthusiast, passionate about playing and following tennis and cricket.
