Farah Tarek Raphael

Farah Raphael is an Egyptian-qualified lawyer with experience across both academia and dispute resolution. She graduated from the German University in Cairo (GUC) with an LL.B. with Excellence and Highest Honours before joining the faculty as an Assistant Lecturer. There, she taught a range of undergraduate courses, including international commercial arbitration, public international law and sports law. She also represented the GUC as a participant, coach and judge at the Philip C. Jessup and Willem C. Vis Moots. Farah pursued postgraduate studies in private law at Ain Shams University, focusing on sports arbitration, following the same theme featured in her bachelor’s thesis.

Alongside her academic work, Farah worked as an Associate in international arbitration at Rizkana & Partners, where she handled commercial, construction and investment disputes under the ICC, CRCICA and ICSID Rules. Her work included legal research, drafting arbitration memorials and participating in hearings. She also supported corporate transactions through bilingual contract drafting and translation.

Beyond the classroom and tribunals, Farah is a branch officer of the International Law Association’s Egyptian Branch and previously volunteered as a supervisory legal consultant at the GUC Legal Clinic. She participated in and organised the university’s exchange programme with the Attorney General’s Office, receiving recognition from Egypt’s Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, and coordinated visits to institutions such as the League of Arab States and the EU Delegation in Egypt. She has also represented her firm in panel discussions with Egyptian ministers and other delegates on investment and mediation.

When she is not buried in case files or surrounded by students, she is likely binge-watching series, lost in a romantic comedy novel or singing at the nearest karaoke. She is fluent in Arabic and English, has elementary proficiency in German, and is taking advantage of her time in Geneva to improve her intermediate French. A Cairo girl at heart, her search for an authentic plate of koshari in Geneva continues.
