Elena Murashko

Elena is a Russian-qualified lawyer with over five years of experience in dispute resolution. Before joining the MIDS, she worked as an associate in the dispute resolution team of one of Russia’s leading law firms – Dyakin, Gortsunyan & Partners. Elena specializes in international commercial arbitration and international investment treaty arbitration. She has experience representing clients in arbitration proceedings conducted under ICC, SIAC, SCC, Swiss Rules, UNCITRAL and LMAA Rules. Her experience covers disputes in such sectors as energy, construction and infrastructure, oil and gas, chemicals and maritime. Her practice also covers advising on sanctions-related matters and public international law issues.

Previously, Elena also served as counsel in the trade negotiations department of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, where she represented Russia in the negotiations of bilaterial investment treaties and free trade agreements on services and investments. She also acted in WTO disputes and represented Russia in negotiations at the WTO.  

Elena received a bachelor’s degree with honours in international economic law from the Russian Foreign Trade Academy and a master’s degree with honours from the National Research University Higher School of Economics. She also studied at Leiden University in the Netherlands as part of an academic exchange. 

Elena has a long-standing involvement in moot courts. During her studies, Elena successfully competed in Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot and John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO law. In particular, Elena won the award as the Best oralist of the semi-final round in John H. Jackson Moot Court in 2019. She later served as a judge/arbitrator in various moot court competitions. Elena also coached the team of Higher School of Economics for Foreign Direct Investment Moot for three years. In 2025, she served as a member of the Case Committee which designed the moot problem.

Finally, in 2023-2024, Elena was a visiting lecturer at the Higher School of Economics where she taught courses on investment arbitration and public international law. Elena regularly contributes to academic discussions on international commercial and investment arbitration as well as trade law by writing for leading journals and arbitration blogs.
