Daria is a Russian-qualified lawyer with over five years of experience in dispute resolution. Before joining the MIDS, she worked as an associate in the dispute resolution team of one of Russia's leading law firms, Monastyrsky, Zyuba, Stepanov & Partners. Daria specialises in international investment arbitration and inter-State litigation. In this role, she has represented States before the world's principal dispute resolution bodies, including the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. She also has experience representing clients in arbitration proceedings conducted under the UNCITRAL and SCC Rules.
Previously, Daria served as a chief expert in the trade negotiations department of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, where she represented Russia in negotiations on bilateral investment treaties and free trade agreements concerning services and investments. She also worked for a WTO Expertise Center, a leading Russian think tank advising on trade and investment regulation.
Daria received a bachelor's degree with honours from the Russian State University of Justice and a master's degree with honours in international economic law from the National Research University Higher School of Economics. She also studied at KU Leuven in Belgium as part of an Erasmus+ academic exchange. Recently, Daria completed her PhD studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and is awaiting the defence of her dissertation, which focuses on the police powers doctrine in international investment law.
During her studies, Daria successfully competed in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, where her team received the award for Best Respondent Memorial.
For the last four years, Daria has been a lecturer at the Higher School of Economics, where she teaches courses on investment arbitration and trade regulation. She regularly contributes to academic discussions on international investment arbitration and trade law by writing for leading journals and arbitration blogs and speaking at conferences.
