Daniel is a Nigerian-qualified lawyer with a strong focus on commercial dispute resolution, having practiced at top-tier law firms in Nigeria. Prior to joining the MIDS, he served as an Associate in the Dispute Resolution team at DLA Piper Africa, Nigeria, a Chambers Global-ranked firm. Prior to this, he spent over four years at SimmonsCooper Partners, where he rose to the role of Deputy Team Lead of the Arbitration and ADR Cluster.
Throughout his career, he has advised multinational corporations, energy companies, and private equity firms in complex commercial disputes across litigation and arbitration. He has extensive experience acting as counsel in domestic ad hoc and institutional arbitration, and has appeared before arbitral tribunals and Nigerian courts, delivering oral arguments and examining witnesses.
His arbitration practice spans disputes involving EPCM contracts, oil & gas infrastructure, corporate governance, and technology. Notable mandates include leading the representation of a midstream energy company in a high-stakes arbitral proceeding and drafting critical submissions in the setting aside of arbitral awards. In litigation, he has represented shareholders in corporate control battles and acted for private equity investors in contractual and regulatory disputes before the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
He is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Lagos Court of Arbitration – Young Arbitrators Network (LCA-YAN), where he leads member engagement and contributes to the organization of moot competitions and educational seminars across Africa. He previously served as President of the ADR Society at the University of Lagos, where he pioneered several student-led initiatives, including the society's inaugural journal and moot competition.
His published work includes contributions to Chambers & Partners’ 2025 Trends and Developments in International Arbitration, and other pieces exploring arbitration law in Nigeria, particularly the role of non-signatory parties and arbitrability under the new Arbitration and Mediation Act 2023. He is also a recipient of the Mondaq Thought Leadership Award and was winner of the LCA-YAN International Arbitration Moot Competition (2018).
