Chen holds J.D. and J.M. degrees from Peking University School of Transnational Law (STL), where her thesis “Puissance Publique in Investment Arbitration” was awarded as Outstanding Thesis. Chen also exchanged at Stockholm University and attended the Hague Academy of International Law and the Paris Arbitration Academy.
Chen focuses on investment arbitration and public international law. Before the MIDS, she interned at the ICSID in Washington DC, the UNIDROIT in Rome, and the UN Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) in New York.
Chen was actively involved in ICSID arbitration proceedings and conducted extensive research for the ICSID contract-based arbitration project at the ICSID. In her role at the UNIDROIT, Chen supported the UNIDROIT–ICC Working Group on International Investment Contracts (State Contracts). With the Treaty Section of UN OLA, Chen analyzed a range of international treaty law issues and contributed to a report to be submitted to the 81st UN General Assembly. Chen also assisted high-level government officials from 25 countries in signing, ratifying, and acceding to multilateral treaties during the Treaty Event at the 79th UN General Assembly.
During law school, Chen represented Peking University STL in the 29th and Stockholm University in the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. She also served as a research assistant for the fourth edition of “The Legal System of the People’s Republic of China in a Nutshell”.
