Ashley Chandler

Ashley is an Australian-qualified disputes lawyer with a practice focussing on international arbitration and cross-border litigation. She has experience in complex, high-value disputes across the energy and resources, construction, pharmaceutical, aerospace and automotive sectors.

Ashley completed an LL.B. and B.A. (Economics & Political Science) at the University of Queensland. She then discovered her passion for international dispute resolution while working at Japan’s largest law firm, Nishimura & Asahi. After two years in Tokyo, Ashley returned to Australia to gain experience in her own jurisdiction. She served as Associate to a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland where she gained a deep understanding of civil procedure and practice. She went on to work in the Global Disputes practice of Jones Day in Brisbane for three years before spending two years as the sole associate to pre-eminent international arbitrator Dr Michael Pryles AO PBM. Prior to commencing the MIDS programme, Ashley was working in the construction disputes team at HFW in Melbourne. 

In these roles, Ashley has gained experience on various commercial disputes, including both contract and non-contract claims, under the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, JCAA and KCAB Rules, as well as treaty claims heard under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules. She is also experienced in complex litigation before state (Queensland and Victoria) and federal courts in Australia. 
Ashley is an active member of the broader arbitration community. She is currently Co-Chair of ACICA45, an Assistant Editor for the Kluwer Arbitration Blog, and previously served on the International Bar Association’s IBA Arb40 Steering Committee.
