Ana Luísa Sousa

Ana is a Portuguese-qualified lawyer with three years of experience in dispute resolution. Before joining the MIDS, Ana worked in the dispute resolution team of PLMJ, a Portuguese tier-1 law firm. In this role, Ana practiced domestic and international arbitration and civil and commercial litigation. Ana worked as counsel on multiple domestic and international commercial arbitrations, ad hoc and institutional (ICC, SCC, CAC, UNCITRAL Rules), worked as co-counsel on investment arbitration under the ICSID Rules and represented clients in setting aside proceedings before the Portuguese courts. Her professional experience involves disputes in construction, telecommunications, corporate and M&A, banking, and finance. 

Before that, Ana interned at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris in the Secretary-General's Office. 

Ana obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Faculdade de Direito da Universidade do Porto and graduated first of her class on the Master in Litigation and Arbitration of the NOVA School of Law of Lisbon with a merit scholarship. During her Master's, Ana participated in the 28th Willem C. Vis Moot (16th round finalist) and undertook an intensive mediation course to become a registered mediator in Portugal. 

Among her projects, Ana published several articles on arbitration and mediation, is a coach for the Willem C. Vis Moot, and is a member of the PT-VYAP Portugal Very Young Arbitration Practitioners. Ana is fluent in Portuguese and English, has a pre-intermediate level of German and Spanish, and is currently learning French.
