Ajla Serdarević is a graduated law student from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, who holds two BA degrees in Law. Prior to the enrollment in the MIDS program, she had obtained her BA in law at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) and simultaneously also obtained her BA in law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Sarajevo.
Ajla successfully completed the Harvardx course called HLS4X: Bioethics: The Law, Medicine, and Ethics of Reproductive Technologies and Genetics. She further developed her expertise in international arbitration by attending the Summer School of International Arbitration at the International University of Sarajevo in both 2021 and 2022. In 2024 she successfully completed the International Winter school on Energy transition at the School of Economics and Business of the University of Sarajevo in collaboration with USAID. Shortly after, Ajla focused together with her colleague on the topic of AI in International Commercial Arbitration: Navigating Challenges and Enforceability of Awards. They presented their research as panelists at the Second Postgraduate Law Conference of the Centre for Private International Law (CPIL) at the University of Aberdeen.
She participated in the International Investment Arbitration Moot Competition Mediateguru competition, in which her team won third place, and Ajla Serdarević won the Best Speaker title. Ajla participated in the 29th and the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition. After winning the Western Balkans Arbitration Writing Competition she published her article on Energy Charter Treaty- In Search for Balance and Clarity in Austrian Yearbook on International Arbitration 2023. As a member of Association ARBITRI, Ajla expanded her research by covering a range of topics including Environmental Social Governance (ESG) standards and related claims, the analysis of bilateral investment treaties, foreign direct investment (FDI), investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) reform, as well as the role of artificial intelligence in international arbitration. Ajla also supports the activities and work of the Association, including conducting the Sarajevo Arbitration Day conference and the Girl Empowerment and Mentorship Program.
Ajla is fluent in Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, and English, with limited working proficiency in German.
